Privacy policy

Enable Rwanda is a nonprofit organisation registered in Rwanda. We run conservation agriculture, digital agriculture, youth and research programmes with farming communities.

For anything you send through this website, Enable Rwanda is the data controller. That means we decide what is collected and what happens to it, and we are the ones you hold responsible.

There are only two places on this site where you can give us anything, and both are things you choose to do.

The contact form. The message is the only required field. An email address is optional and we ask for it only so we can reply. If you leave it blank we simply have no way to write back. We do not ask for your name, your organisation or your phone number, because we do not need them to read what you wrote.

The newsletter. We collect your email address and nothing else. We use it to send you occasional updates about our work, and for nothing else.

Both go to our shared inbox as an email. We do not build a profile about you, we do not enrich what you send with data from anywhere else, and we never sell or rent it.

This website sets no cookies at all. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.

We also do not use social media pixels, advertising trackers or fingerprinting. The fonts are served from our own domain rather than from Google, so loading a page here does not tell anyone else that you visited.

We want to know which pages are useful. We use Plausible Analytics, which is privacy-focused and cookieless. It does not store your IP address, it does not follow you between websites, and it cannot identify you.

What we see is aggregate: how many people read a page, roughly which country they came from, and which link brought them here. We cannot pick you out of that, and neither can anyone else.

The map is hosted by OpenStreetMap. Loading it would send your IP address and browser details to them, so we do not load it until you press the button that asks for it.

If you never press it, nothing is requested from OpenStreetMap and they learn nothing about your visit.

Donating takes you off this website to a payment provider. Your card details are entered on their page, handled by them, and never touch our website or our servers. We never see or store a card number.

The provider will have its own privacy policy, and we would encourage you to read it before you give. What reaches us is the donation itself and whatever details you choose to share with us, such as your name if you would like a receipt.

We keep this list short on purpose. These companies process data on our behalf and are not allowed to use it for their own purposes.

Because these services are outside Rwanda, some information is processed abroad. We only use providers that commit to protecting it, and we share the minimum needed for each one to do its job.

Messages sent through the contact form stay in our inbox while we deal with them and for as long as they are useful for our records. If you ask us to delete a message, we will.

Newsletter subscriptions last until you unsubscribe, and every email we send has an unsubscribe link. Server logs are short-lived and are kept only for security and troubleshooting.

Rwanda’s Law No. 058/2021 relating to the protection of personal data and privacy gives you rights over information about you. You can ask us to:

• tell you what we hold about you
• correct anything that is wrong
• delete what we hold
• stop using it for a particular purpose
• send you a copy of it

Write to info@enablerwanda.org and we will respond. There is no charge and you do not need to explain why you are asking.

If you are not happy with how we handled it, you can complain to the National Cyber Security Authority, which supervises data protection in Rwanda, at dpo.gov.rw. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.

The site is served over an encrypted connection. Access to our inbox and to the content system is limited to the people who need it.

No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise. If something goes wrong in a way that affects you, we will tell you and the supervisory authority as the law requires.

This site is meant for adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Young people take part in our programmes, and their information is handled through our programme consent process rather than through this website. If you believe a child has sent us something here, tell us and we will remove it.

When our practices change, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a change matters to you, for example if we start collecting something new, we will say so clearly rather than quietly editing a paragraph.
