    Youth and capacity building2025

Health insurance cover for survivors in Ngamba

Households in Ngamba Sector that survived the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi had fallen behind on their community health insurance. We sat with them, listened, and covered the premiums for the families who needed it most.

  • Two trainees using hoes to open planting furrows along a line of string while other participants watch from the edge of the plot.
    Ongoing
    Conservation agriculture2025

Conservation agriculture training for smallholder farmers

A practical training series on better agricultural practice: ridging, spacing, mulching and compost. Farmers opened the furrows themselves on the demonstration plot rather than watching someone else do it.

    Huye District
  • A farmer and two visitors looking together at a mobile phone screen at the edge of a field in the evening light.
    Ongoing
    Digital agriculture2026

Planting and weather advice by phone

Short seasonal messages in Kinyarwanda, sent to farmer groups by SMS and WhatsApp. When to plant, what is moving through the district, and what the nearest market paid last week.

    Nyamagabe District
  • A facilitator leading a practical session for a room of students in blue overalls seated around a demonstration table.
    Ongoing
    Youth and capacity building2026

    Trainer training for young farmers

Young farmers and agriculture students learn the full conservation agriculture curriculum, then run a session for a farmer group themselves while we sit at the back and take notes.

    Huye District
  • A trainer kneeling in a demonstration plot, pouring fertiliser into a planting hole while a circle of farmers looks on.
    Planned
    Conservation agriculture2026

    Demonstration plots at partner schools

A teaching plot on school grounds, run by students through a full season. The harvest goes to the school kitchen, and the measurements go into their coursework.
